After opening the box (with magnetic opening! Ed.), We are
faced with the headphones and the box that contains the charging base /
transmitter. Below, we find, always in a box, all the cables we need for the
connection:
• 2 USB
cables
• 1 Optical
cable
• 1 3.5mm
Jack
The packaging is really well done and finding yourself in
front of these massive headphones after opening the elegant box fully satisfies
our eyes too.
OUR PROOF
We've had over a few months to test these headphones, so we
can provide a fairly reliable review based on long-term use.
In recent months they have been tested with various titles
on the Microsoft console, such as Destiny , Halo 5: Guardians , The Witcher 3:
Wild Hunt and many others. How did they behave? Always in an excellent way in
any situation!
Thanks to the amount of existing and interchangeable presets
we can always get the most out of these headphones with every game.
Basically there are four presets in Game mode, but through
the Tur Force Audio Hub program downloadable on both Windows and Mac or also
using the app for smartphones and tablets , we can download and replace any
preset with a specific one for the title we are playing.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to create or customize individual
presets, which would be an interesting feature and exploited by those who,
perhaps, want to have a little more control to make some personal touches.
The presence of the program and the app are undoubtedly a
strong point of the Elite 800X, which receive good support with constant
firmware updates.
If we really wanted to find a flaw in this area, we could
say that on an aesthetic level , the design of the software (and of the
website, Ed.) Is indirectly proportional to that of the headphones.
Dwelling briefly on the design, even on this front the
headphones are very well made, with attention to detail of the highest level.
But let's get to the focal points of this review: how do
they behave during use?
Very good , without a doubt!
The wireless connection of the Elite 800X is stable and we
never noticed interference (we placed the base 15cm from a router with four 2.4
and 5 GHz antennas).
7.1 surround positions every sound in space flawlessly and
this leads to incredible levels of immersion .
The sound performance is excellent in every situation,
returning intense bass and well-defined highs, without distortions even at high
volumes.
The ability to connect a smartphone via Bluetooth provides
us with multiple additional features: we can listen to our favorite music while
we play, receive notifications and calls directly on the headphones, all
without ever taking our eyes off the screen.
Battery life in wireless mode is around 8-10 hours and
thanks to the integrated voice assistant, we will always know if you need to
charge them.
The possibility of inserting a micro-USB cable to recharge
the headphones while we continue to play is excellent. Obviously, with a fairly
long cable.
Another point in favor of these headphones are the
integrated microphones . At the beginning there were strong doubts about the
solution put into practice by Turtle Beach for the Elite 800X, with the
justified fear of finding themselves with a subdued and not very functional
microphone. Fortunately this did not happen. Your voice will always be captured
optimally by the two microphones, which also help eliminate background noise.
Are these headphones flawless? Absolutely not.
One of the most difficult to digest defects of the Elite
800X is the ease with which the eight keys , located on the ear cups , can be
pressed. This will unfortunately be one of the first reasons why it will be
frustrating to use these headphones at first. Very often you will find yourself
accidentally pressing a key as soon as you put your hand too close to the
headphones. But, once you get used to it, it becomes a secondary problem, even
if it will continue to be present.
Another negative point, which however is symptomatic in
headphones of this caliber, is obviously the weight not exactly contained. The
headphones adhere very well to the head, balancing the weight optimally, but
the first gaming sessions with this headset will require a few minutes of pause
every now and then.
If you want to be optimistic, however, two hours a day with
these headphones on will help you strengthen your neck muscles!
Finally, a detail that has not convinced us very much is the
voice assistant . There is no doubt that it is very useful to warn us when the
battery is running low or about the changes we make to the headphones by
pressing the various buttons. The problem is that when the voice assistant
activates, all other sounds are cut off . This is quite annoying, especially
when chatting with your teammates. Losing a piece of information given to us by
a team member during an online match is not exactly the best!
